Kid-Friendly Michelin Restaurants in Tokyo: 11 Picks
Many of Tokyo's Michelin restaurants happily welcome families. As an official Michelin Guide partner, OMAKASE JE selects 11 kid-friendly fine-dining spots across the city.
Bringing Kids to Fine Dining in Tokyo: What Parents Should Know
Can You Bring Babies and Young Children to High-End Restaurants in Japan?
Many parents assume fine dining is off-limits to children, but policies in Japan vary from restaurant to restaurant, and in Tokyo they are often more flexible than you might expect. Common arrangements include welcoming children only at lunch, only in a private room, or only after a phone call to confirm. All 11 restaurants in this guide accept children, and several offer a dedicated children's menu, so the whole family can enjoy a full meal.
Are Strollers Allowed, and How Do Private Rooms Work?
Whether a restaurant can take a stroller usually comes down to its layout. More than half of the restaurants in this guide have private rooms, which give you more space, somewhere to park a stroller, and privacy if your child gets restless, making them the ideal choice for dining with babies and toddlers. If a restaurant has no private room, ask about stroller parking when you book.
What Should You Tell the Restaurant When You Book?
Booking a family meal takes a little more communication than a standard reservation. When you reserve, it helps to mention:
- The number of children and their ages
- Whether you need a high chair
- Whether you'll bring a stroller
- Any allergies or dietary restrictions
- Whether you'd like a private room
Letting the restaurant know in advance isn't just courteous; it gives the kitchen time to prepare so the meal runs smoothly on the day.
Which Dining Style Suits Each Age Group?
For babies and toddlers (ages 0–2), choose a restaurant with a private room that accepts strollers; lunch is usually easier to book than dinner.
For preschoolers (ages 3–6), a restaurant with a children's menu is the safest choice, so your child isn't faced with dishes they can't eat.
Children aged seven and up can usually keep pace with a fine-dining meal, and some restaurants even let them interact with the chef, turning the experience into a memorable part of the trip.
Our 11 Family-Friendly Picks
All 11 restaurants below can be booked online through OMAKASE JE, and you can note your family's needs directly in the reservation comments, saving you from sorting out the details in Japanese at the restaurant.
1. Daigo (醍醐) / Japanese / Kamiyacho
Daigo offers one of Tokyo's most serene meals: delicate shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) built around seasonal ingredients and served in a private room overlooking a Japanese garden that shifts with the seasons.
The course changes throughout the year, and the sukiya-style building (a refined, teahouse-inspired architecture) at the foot of Mt. Atago in Roppongi is dressed with seasonal flower arrangements and hanging scrolls, engaging the eye as much as the palate.
Daigo held two Michelin stars from 2008 to 2023 and has held one star since 2024, along with a Green Star. It's about a three-minute walk from Exit A5 of Onarimon Station on the Toei Mita Line.

2. Tenoshima (てのしま) / Japanese / Aoyama
Tenoshima sets out to make refined Japanese cooking feel welcoming rather than distant, guided by its philosophy of "washoku (traditional Japanese cuisine) for everyone." The result is a distinctive, inventive style of Japanese food, and the kitchen is notably good with children: give advance notice and they'll prepare a children's menu.
The omakase (chef's choice) course showcases seasonal ingredients shipped in from around Japan, with optional drink pairings. Designed around a central island kitchen that evokes a traditional hearth, the intimate room seats six at the counter and 12 at tables.
Tenoshima has held one Michelin star for seven consecutive years. It's about a three-minute walk from Exit 3 of Aoyama-itchome Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza and Hanzomon lines.

3. Nogizaka Shin (乃木坂 しん) / Japanese / Nogizaka
Nogizaka Shin serves polished kaiseki (a traditional multi-course meal) with real technical backbone, the work of a chef who honed his craft at several starred Japanese restaurants. He has a particular devotion to tai (sea bream), one of the defining ingredients of Japanese cuisine, and insists on sourcing it from his home prefecture of Tokushima. Much of the pleasure here is taking in that attention to detail within a sukiya-style space that carries the atmosphere of a traditional ryotei (high-end Japanese restaurant).
Fully reservation-only, Nogizaka Shin has held one Michelin star for ten consecutive years (2017 to 2026) and has been named to the top 100 on a major Japanese restaurant review site. It's about a three-minute walk from Exit 1 of Nogizaka Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line.

4. Imafuku (今福) / Hotpot / Shirokane
Imafuku is devoted to kuroge wagyu (Japanese Black beef), presenting this icon of Japanese food culture as both shabu-shabu and sukiyaki. Its premium sirloin sukiyaki uses top-grade beef selected from across Japan and is served two ways in a single meal: the first slice in the Kansai (western Japan) style, the second in the Kanto (eastern Japan) style, so you taste two regional traditions in one sitting. The sukiyaki comes with premium Yatsugatake eggs for an added touch of luxury.
Through OMAKASE JE you can book the sukiyaki course, the shabu-shabu course, or the "Taste of Imafuku" course that includes both.

5. Udatsu Sushi (宇田津 鮨) / Sushi / Nakameguro
Tucked deep in a side street near Nakameguro Station, behind a striking oversized wooden sliding door, Udatsu Sushi is an intimate sushi kappo counter (chef-led, counter-style dining). The chef visits Toyosu Market each morning to choose fish best suited to his vinegared rice, then prepares it to order. Both lunch and dinner are omakase only, and if there's something you're keen to try, such as hairy crab, tuna belly, or salt-cured sea urchin, you can note it when you book. The artwork in the room changes with the seasons, giving the space a different feel through the year.
Udatsu Sushi was selected by the Michelin Guide in 2025 and 2026.

Since its founding, Waketokuyama has cooked in the spirit of omotenashi (heartfelt hospitality), serving four-season kaiseki that blends tradition with the chef's own ideas. Its signature grilled abalone pairs plump, meaty abalone with a generous amount of its own liver sauce for a deep taste of the sea, while winter brings seasonal delicacies such as fugu (pufferfish), suppon (soft-shell turtle), and crab. The warm, wood-toned room is calm and comfortable.
Families are seated in a private room, and the kitchen can prepare a dedicated course for children under six. Fully reservation-only, Waketokuyama held two Michelin stars from 2011 to 2017 and one star from 2018 to 2026.

Takumi Sushi Owana distills the essence of classic Edomae sushi (the traditional Tokyo style), the work of a chef who spent more than ten years at the renowned Sushi Sho. He pairs carefully chosen ingredients with perfectly balanced vinegared rice, served as a seasonal omakase in an intimate, hidden Ebisu setting. The drinks list runs to sake, shochu (Japanese distilled spirits), and wine chosen to match Edomae sushi, and the eight counter seats let you watch the craft up close; there is also one private room.

The sommelier, who trained at a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, pairs from a list of around 300 wines, making the matches a highlight in their own right.
