About
Nestled in the quiet neighborhood behind Senso‑ji Temple in Oku‑Asakusa, known as Kannonura, Tansouan Kenjiro stands with a serene presence. Its traditional tiled roof blends naturally into the surrounding streetscape, and passing through the noren reveals a calm interior adorned with bamboo walls, hanging scrolls, and Japanese chests, creating a warm and refined atmosphere.
The owner began his spiritual training at a temple in Yamagata at the age of thirty. He later entered the culinary world, gaining experience in Japanese restaurants, yakitori shops, and soba establishments, where he developed a wide range of skills. Drawing on this experience, he carefully prepares not only soba but also seasonal à la carte dishes. For the soba, he selects the finest domestically grown buckwheat available at its seasonal peak and handles each step through the hand-making of the soba, bringing out its natural aroma, sweetness, and smooth texture. Enjoy it with a dipping sauce made from a broth of shaved bonito flakes and a house-made kaeshi.
Seasonal specialty dishes change throughout the year, and the carefully curated selection of sake, shochu, and wine—chosen through visits to breweries—offers delightful pairings.
Counter seating is ideal for solo diners, while table seating accommodates a wide range of occasions, from meals with family and friends to business gatherings. Experience the gentle atmosphere unique to Oku‑Asakusa and savor soba and seasonal flavors crafted with care.
