Imperial Viking SAL is the Imperial Hotel’s iconic buffet restaurant, renowned as the birthplace of the “Viking” dining style in Japan—where guests are invited to enjoy as much of their favorite dishes as they wish.

In 1957, then-President Tetsuzo Inumaru was inspired by the Danish smörgåsbord. The following year, he opened Japan’s first buffet restaurant. Although the price was equal to a night's stay at the Imperial Hotel, it became an instant success without any advertising. The name “Viking” was inspired by the popular pirate film The Vikings, which was showing in Japan at the time.

Centered on refined French cuisine, the buffet also features authentic Japanese and Chinese dishes, offering an exceptional culinary journey across a variety of traditions.

• Arrival time:

  Please arrive 5 minutes before your reserved time to ensure a timely start of your meal. If we are unable to contact you 15 minutes after your reservation time, we may have to cancel your reservation. Please make sure to contact us if you are running late.

• Dress Code:

  Dress code is smart casual (Please refrain from wearing T-shirts, shorts, and sandals when you visit.)

• Children:

  Child rates will be applied upon entry. Please refer to the course details for more information.

• Others:

  We kindly ask for your consideration regarding excessive perfume or fabric softener fragrances.

  Even if permission to take photos or videos is granted, we kindly request that you avoid capturing other guests in your photos and videos.
