"Shigetsu" is a Shojin Ryori (a form of vegetarian cuisine, the traditional dining style of Buddhist monks in Japan) restaurant directly managed by Tenryuji Temple. Surrounded by a famous garden and ever-changing seasonal landscapes, the restaurant offers Shojin Ryori that was introduced from China during the Kamakura period along with Zen teachings.

Shojin Ryori is a cookery method developed to savor the spiritual freedom that arises from the harmony of Zen practice, including the act of eating, and the natural world.

Starting with carefully selected fresh seasonal ingredients, the dishes are wholeheartedly prepared with a focus on vegetables, wild mountain plants, seaweeds, and other plant-based ingredients, omitting all animal-derived materials. Enjoy the health benefits of these well-crafted dishes.
