Tucked away in a quiet alley of Kyoto's Gion district, Kappo Umetsu is a hidden treasure where guests can forget the city's hustle and bustle and unwind in a serene dining environment.

Led by a seasoned chef with years of expertise, the restaurant offers exquisite dishes that showcase the finest seasonal ingredients.

Guests are treated to a wide variety of crafted dishes and heartfelt hospitality. Inside the peaceful restaurant, a brick-built hearth set behind the counter is stoked with charcoal, carefully drawing out the full flavors of each ingredient. Whether grilled, simmered, or fried, dishes are customized to suit each guest’s preferences, making the most of seasonal bounty.

True to its name, "Umetsu," the chef has a unique affection for ume (Japanese plums). Homemade plum products, like umeboshi (pickled plums) and plum soy sauce, are thoughtfully paired with specialties such as hamo (pike conger) or beef cutlets, adding a distinctive touch.

  If you have any specific food allergies or ingredients you cannot consume, please inform us in advance. Unfortunately, we cannot accept reservations if there are ingredients that you cannot eat within a wide range.

  ※ Please note that our tempura batter contains egg and our soup broth is made with seafood. For vegetarian guests, we kindly ask that you specify what you are able to eat in the special requests section when making your reservation.

• Arrival time:

  Please arrive 5 minutes before your reserved time to ensure a timely start of your meal. If you do not contact us and exceed your reservation time, it will be automatically canceled.

• Dress Code:

  Dress code is smart casual (Please refrain from wearing T-shirts, shorts, and sandals when you visit.)

• Children:

  Only those who can enjoy the same course as adults are allowed

• Others:

  We kindly ask for your consideration regarding excessive perfume or fabric softener fragrances.

  An additional private room fee of 1,000 JPY will apply for private room usage.
