About
Nestled in a quiet alley in Nihonbashi Ningyocho, Iwase offers a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. The interior, originally designed, built, and renovated by the founding owner—a former carpenter—features traditional fittings sourced from a historic farmhouse in Shizuoka Prefecture. Handmade tables crafted by the founding owner and painted by the proprietress further reflect the warmth of true craftsmanship. Today, the current owner carries on the founding owner's spirit, welcoming guests with the finest flavors of each season.
The centerpiece of the menu, the sashimi, showcases seasonal wild fish personally selected by the owner at Tsukiji Market. Thoughtfully composed pairings—such as Spanish mackerel with ponzu jelly or cuttlefish with salted kelp—highlight the character of each ingredient, while the presentation carries a distinctly Japanese sensibility.
The proprietress’s collection of colorful antique tableware adds charm to each dish, and even the drinkware is chosen with care: shochu served in Edo‑kiriko cut‑glass, warm sake in tin vessels, and chilled sake in glass chirori.
The restaurant can accommodate gatherings of two and a half hours or more, and is well suited for celebrations and surprise occasions. In this secluded, house‑like setting, guests can enjoy relaxed meals with loved ones or casual drinks with friends in a space that invites you to unwind.
Experience a memorable moment shaped by handcrafted warmth, creative cuisine, and the quiet charm of this unique hideaway.
