Nestled in the quiet streets of Kodemmacho, Cheval is an intimate French restaurant where guests can enjoy a leisurely dining experience at its eight‑seat counter. The name, meaning “horse” in French, reflects the spirit of Chef Atsuko Koizumi—born in the Year of the Horse (in the Chinese zodiac)—and her personal connection to this area, whose name also carries an association with horses. Her career includes serving as executive chef at Ginza’s Thierry Marx and refining her craft at renowned restaurants in France as well as at Mandarin Oriental, Paris. She embraces a minimalist approach that highlights ingredients and techniques through thoughtful restraint.

The menu is intentionally à la carte, allowing guests to pair whichever dish they desire with their choice of wine. The lineup features French classics such as smoked trout, roasted lamb, beef cheek braised in red wine, aligot, and quenelles—all prepared with meticulous care. Guests can also enjoy dishes that reflect the chef’s affection for her hometown, including the “Fukagawa Risotto,” inspired by her roots in Koto Ward.

Despite managing everything from preparation to service on her own, a gentle, unhurried atmosphere flows across the counter, where natural conversation with the chef becomes part of the experience. Whether you wish to enjoy authentic French cuisine and wine in a relaxed setting, share a meal with someone special, or spend a quiet evening savoring good food on your own, Cheval offers a warm and welcoming place for memorable moments.
